A top-notch new full-length contemporary solo show, DESH, by celebrated choreographer and performer, Akram Khan, and a new opera from prominent American composer Philip Glass are just some of the highlights to headline the 2014 Brisbane Festival.

Happening on 6 to 27 September, this month-long celebration Brisbane’s arts and culture will feature 73 productions and 440 performances from world-renowned and up-and-coming artists across Australia and around the world.

Aside from Khan’s masterpiece DESH and Philip Glass’ latest operatic sensation, The Perfect American, the programme line-up for this year’s festival also includes SOAP – The Show, which is a brilliant hybrid act of circus, theatre and comedy, and LIMBO which features an exotic mix of outlandish circus skills, live music and sexy humour creating a sophisticated, glitzy big top experience. You will witness jaw-dropping illusions, mind-boggling manoeuvres, awesome dance moves and exciting live music from a coterie of brilliant international performers.

To kick off the festival, a group of Argentinian and Spanish acrobats will perform an Australian premiere of their mystifying and bold display of choreography.

For good laughter and fun moments, esteemed stand-up comedians Ronny Chieng and Matt Okine will leave audiences in stitches when they take to The Telstra Spiegeltent stage.

There will also be amazing and spectacular displays throughout the festival including a stunning labyrinth of giant inflatable sculptures to wow the South Bank visitors from 6 to 26 September when the famous Architects of Air brings Exxopolis to the heart of Brisbane Festival.

Meanwhile, the Brisbane Airport Light Garden, which features a dazzling fairy tale of bamboo, light and sound will appear at South Bank’s Cultural Forecourt to make children and grown-ups enjoy the festival.
