Parkland

Take a break from it all and stroll through Roma Street Parkland, the world’s largest urban subtropical garden. A favorite among locals and tourists, Roma Street Parkland is an oasis in the heart of the city.

It offers specialized walks, Art in the Park, diverse flora and fauna and many more. Enjoy a picnic or a BBQ, ride a bike, skateboard, rollerblade, take a guided walk or just relax under the shade. You won’t run out of things to do.

The Roma Street Parkland art walk features sand stone sculptures, mosaic, paving, bronzes and murals within the parkland. You’ll also see the 15 pieces originally created by sixteen of Queensland’s most talented artists. Figure out the story behind each artwork.

There are a number of specialized walks that offer a peek into the parkland’s design and history. The heritage walk takes you through the park’s history from its conception to the present times. The curator’s walk gives you a behind the scenes look into the planning and design of the gardens. There’s the Auslan interpreter walk led by a volunteer guide and a sign language interpreter as well as the sensory walk which is designed for visitors who are vision impaired. If you would prefer to explore the park on your own, try the self guided walks through the art walk and the Parkland Lake.

If walking is not your cup of tea, climb aboard the Parkland Explorer, a trackless train that takes you through the lush subtropical landscape of the parkland. Learn about places of interest through the audio presentation. You can hop on and hop off from three stations within the parkland.

Enjoy a picnic or a BBQ at designated areas in the park. These are all free of charge. If you would rather buy your food on site, you can get takeaway items from Melange Café. The café offers cold drinks, ice- creams, espressos, gourmet sandwiches and a full á la carte menu.
